Located at the 450 Laguna St. at the intersection of Oak and Laguna Streets, the nearly 2.5 acre site will offer a free Earth Day event with activities for all ages. The celebration will feature live music, food and an ecology-themed painting project.A highlight of Earth Day activities will be a hands-on tutorial on DIY potato towers. Vertical structures made from chicken wire, potato towers provide a practical, high-yield way for urban dwellers to grow and harvest potatoes in small spaces. Other farm activities will include planting vegetable starts and seeds, site beautification, and sheet mulching, a low-cost, pesticide-free gardening method that uses existing weeds and vegetation to build fertile soil.About Hayes Valley Farm Growing in the heart of San Francisco, Hayes Valley Farm is an education and research project with a focus on urban agriculture. The project is founded on an interim-use agreement between Hayes Valley Farm and San Francisco's Office of Economic and Workforce Development, until the City moves forward with other development plans for the site. Organized by an alliance of urban farmers, educators, and designers, the project is fiscally sponsored by the San Francisco Parks Trust. The farm hosts workshops as well as regular workdays on Thursdays from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Sundays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Links: Event detailsCost: FREE Tags: Food, Free, fun, Green Event, Hayes Valley, music, sustainable Categories: Fairs & Festivals, Lectures & Workshops, San FranciscoVenue: Hayes Valley FarmAddress: 450 Laguna St., San Franciscogeopress_addEvent(window,"load", function() { geopress_makemap(105001,"Hayes Valley Farm",,,"google",Mapstraction.ROAD, { pan: false, zoom: 'false', overview: false, scale: false, map_type: false },15) }); Submitted by Website ContributorThursday 12:00 AM at Hayes Valley Farm (450 Laguna St.) More details

From 1pm to 6pm, The Frankenart Mart art gallery has a battle royale between beef and veggie hot dogs once a month (beef traditionally wins.. so come on all you vegans!). As a special bonus the gallery will be filming their Bollywood Dance Scene for Frankenart the Musical. If you come at 4p, be prepared to dance on the sidewalk.About Hot Dog Day: Every month, Frankenart Mart gives away free beef and veggie dogs to all visitors who want one. There's a bit of a rivalry going on between the two - scorewise. Though veggie has come very close, beef has historically won out.The Frankenart Mart, celebrating its fourth anniversary this week, is a quirky shoebox-sized art gallery in the Inner Richmond with curious one-of-a-kind interactive art exhibits and unique art projects like "Poetry in a Can".
