Nature continues to inspire the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra! Maestro Kim Allen Kluge presents Vivaldi's "Spring," and his own "Haiku Suite: Three Nature Poems for Sakahachi and Orchestra." The lovely dancers from Bowen McCauley Dance will join the orchestra during Kluge's composition.
The grand finale will be mezzo Elizabeth Bishop and tenor Ta'u Pupu'a singing selections from Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde (Songs of the Earth).
Mahler is known for his romantic music, heavy with emotion, but also filled with the wonder of nature and joy at light-hearted moments. Das Lied von der Erde is based on a book of Chinese poetry -- lamentations about loss and regret.
Tickets are $20-$80. Youth tickets (ages 8-18) are only $5! Tickets can be purchased online at www.alexsym.org or by phone at 703-548-0885. Concerts are performed at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center on the Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria campus, 2001 N. Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311.
